    Located in downtown Norwich, this park has picturesque lawn with a gazebo near one of the deepest points in the Thames River. Right next to the park is the marina, which is host to several festivals and events throughout the year and offers basketball and a children’s play area.   • Mystic Seaport
    Located at 75 Greenmanville, Avenue along the Mystic River, or from I-95 take exit 90. Among its 17 acres are historic houses, shops and trade buildings that promote an understanding of life in a seaport during the mid 19thcentury.   • Mystic Aquarium
    Located off I-95 at exit 90, the Mystic Aquarium offers more than 3500 living sea creatures in exhibits that include the Alaskan Coast where beluga whales and harbor seals co-exist in an outdoor naturalistic habitat. Waterfalls, caves and rocky beaches add to the environment. Northern sea lions inhabit a landscape similar to their native Pribil Islands and African black-footed penguins can be seen both above and below water.   • USS Nautilus and Submarine Force Museum
    Located at the Naval Submarine Base, exit 86 from I-95, the USS Nautilus is the first nuclear powered submarine and the first ship to reach the North Pole. Visitors are permitted to board and explore the ship, visit the crews quarters, and view exhibits that include and interactive computer that explains how exactly a submarine works.   • U.S. Coast Guard Academy
    Located at 15 Mohegan Avenue in New London the U.S. Coast Guard Academy welcomes visitors year round to tour the academy. Tours are free and self guided. When it is in port, the three mastered training barque Eagle is open to the public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m.. Full-dress reviews, held at Washington Parade Field happen most Fridays at 4:00 p.m. in the spring and fall. In the summer, the academy offers some wonderful band concerts of patriotic and popular music.   • Norwich Navigators
    The double A affiliate of major league baseball’s San Francisco Giants is based right in Norwich. The Navigators play at Dodd Stadium, on New Park Avenue located off of Route 32.   • Bicycling
    The historic sections of Norwich and the rural, underdeveloped areas east of the city, around Preston, Ledyard and Voultown are prime areas for scenic cycling. Also, there are beautiful biking trails located in Case Mountain Park and Farmington Canal Linear Park. Both are located outside of the Norwich area.   • Harkness Memorial State Park
    275 Great Neck Road, Waterford, CT. Comprised of 125 Acres and the 42 room Harnkess Mansion, a perfect spot for picnicking. The grounds are open daily, the mansion is open weekends and holidays.   • Mohegan Park
    Located on Mohegan Park Road is the 385 acre Mohegan Park, one of Connecticut’s great urban sanctuaries. Most of the park is wooded hilly terrain well suited for a brisk walk along one of the many trails.   • Devils Hopyard
    Located in East Haddam, take Route 156, Hopyard Road and follow the signs. Devils Hopyard is an 860 acre state park, said by many to be haunted. This isolated, heavily forested park can be very spooky at night, but during the daylight Devils Hopyard is one of the most popular spots in this part of Connecticut, and the big rocks around Chapman Falls are especially nice.   • Rocky Neck State Park
    Located off I-95 at exit 72 in Niantic, is a great location for picnics and a chance to enjoy the scenery. Walk to the end of the rocky point, where you can see the waters of Long Island Sound the three sides. The park has a picnic area and a place to cookout.   • Gillette Castle
    Located at 67 River Road, off Route 82, East Haddam, CT - Gillette Castle was built over a five year period from 1914 to 1919 as the retirement home of the famous actor, William Gillette, whose is best known for his stage role as British detective Sherlock Holmes. This castle is built on 122 acres of wooded land and the 24 room mansion is now a museum. Don’t forget your camera, as the view down the Connecticut River from the castles terrace is one of the best in the state.
